What Happens When Parents Disagree on Custody and Visitation?
In cases where child custody is disputed, New York will often appoint a law guardian (a lawyer appointed by the court to represent the child or children) who will make an investigation and issue a recommendation to the court regarding child custody and visitation. The court may also appoint a psychologist or other professional if there is a dispute between the parents about the child’s well-being with one parent versus the other.
